Sustainability and responsible fishing methods has always been a concern not only for the ecosystem of our oceans but also ensuring that future generations still have adequate sources of food and livelihood in the future, research shows that a staggering 75 percent of Philippine fishing grounds are overfished mostly attributed to illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing, usually from large fishing companies.
APECO recognizes the need for managed, responsible, and safe forms of harvesting and maintaining our oceans. Being the first in the Philippines, it envisions a modern Agri Marine-Center focused on the research of Agri-Marine Technology and vocational trades, through its fish port, processing, canning, and reefer facilities. This not only ensures more jobs for the surrounding communities but also gives the chance for innovations towards eco-friendly and sustainable methods that will ease the stress on our oceans.
